Dear Colleagues at Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton Region:

WE ARE ORGANIZING A UNION.

When you join CUPE you have:

  • More power to win annual wage increases, benefits, and job security
  • Fair and transparent job posting and hiring process
  • The ability to negotiate a collective agreement, which means CMHA cannot arbitrarily change our working conditions
  • A process to address problems at work, and the power of a union to win solutions

CUPE has a strong presence in the social services sector representing 54,700 members in over 500 bargaining units in communities across the country.  Eighty-five per cent (85%) of workers in the social services sector at CUPE identify as women.  CUPE members in the social services sector provide a range of services and supports to people who are often vulnerable, marginalized, and impoverished.

At CMHA Edmonton Region, all non-union workers, except for management, can join CUPE. This includes Shift Leads, Team Leads, Crisis Responders, Community Engagement workers, Marketing, Administrators and Clerical Staff.

There are many advantages to being a member of CUPE, a strong, democratic union. One of the biggest is never having to face your employer alone.

A union is YOU and your CO-WORKERS coming together to improve your working conditions. Together with your co-workers you will have the ability to decide what aspects of your job need to change for the better.

A company contract, employee handbook or terms of employment document is not a collective bargaining agreement because the employer can change the terms and conditions of employment anytime they choose.
